On Thursday last week, we primarily tested the jointly developed application for district walks in the city district Bremen Hemelingen together with our participants. Since last summer we have conducted walks in the district and digitalised them in a map application together with a group of senior citizens from Hemelingen as well as local stakeholders.

The application is designed to inform elderly people in the five districts of Hemelingen about beautiful, interesting and accessible routes and to motivate them to explore their district - also beyond the boundaries of their respective neighbourhoods. In addition to historically interesting information, you will also find information on accessibility, seating, toilets and refreshment facilities. There is also the possibility for local service providers to announce district walks there.

In the future, the application will be integrated and available on the official city portal, Bremen.de.

On Thursday we went for one of the walks in bright sunshine while using tablets. We looked at what works well and where there are problems, when and where which information is relevant and what data is missing. We were able to identify a number of weaknesses. Finally, we discussed the application at lunch. The feedback from our participants was thoroughly positive. After initial scepticism among some of them, they could now identify their contribution to the success of the project. Besides the technical result, regular group meetings were also considered a valuable social component. In addition, we were also able to introduce some of the participants, who had not been experienced so far, to digital technology, in particular the use of tablets and the Internet, and to arouse interest.

Once the application has been completed and is migrated to Bremen.de, another user test with external users is to be conducted in order to evaluate the usability of the application.
